Welcome to the 3rd Norsk Sjakkfestival (Norwegian Chess Festival) at Norway’s new “chess hotel” Quality Hotel & Resort Fagernes, with a central placement in Southern Norway, 2½ hours from Oslo airport.
The Festival is being held during the Easter week, and the program includes The open Norwegian championship of 2013 and several other events for all friends of chess, irrespective of their level, from Beginner to Grandmaster.
THE OPEN NORWEGIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Fagernes, Sunday 24 – Sunday 31 March
An attractive international open tournament divided into three groups.
Group A:
Sunday 24 – Saturday 31 March
A semi-open IM and GM tournament of 9 rounds, with approximately 12 – 13 Grandmasters.
Open to players with a FIDE rating or Norwegian rating 1750 or higher.
40 moves in 2 hours, plus 1 hour extra to finish.
Group B:
Wednesday 27 – Sunday 31 March
Open to players with a rating between 1000 and 2000. Closed to players with a rating 2000 or higher.
A 7-round tournament, submitted for FIDE rating.
40 moves in 1½ hours, plus 30 minutes extra to finish.
Group C:
Wednesday 27 – Sunday 31 March
Open to players with a rating below 1250 or with no rating. (Some unrated players may also be allowed into group A or B if previous results indicate this.)
7-round tournament, for national Norwegian rating.
40 moves in 1½ hours, plus 30 minutes extra to finish.
All the three groups count in the Norwegian Grand Prix (NGP) circuit 2012/13.
Entry fees:
Group A:
GM, IM and WGM: Free
WIM and players with a FIDE rating 2250+: NOK 500
Players with a FIDE rating 2000-2249: NOK 850
Players with a FIDE rating below 2000: NOK 1250
A discount NOK 100 to players born 1999 or later.
Groups B and C:
”Lilliputs” born 2000 or later: NOK 300
Juniors born 1993 or later: NOK 400
Other players: NOK 500
Prizes:
Group A:
1. Prize Euro 1000 (app. NOK 7500) + a trophy
2. Prize NOK 5500
3. Prize NOK 4000
4. Prize NOK 2500
5. Prize NOK 1500
6. Prize NOK 1000
7., 8., 9. and 10. Prize each NOK 600
The best players of the rating groups (FIDE rating) 2150 – 2299, 2000-2149 and below 2000 are all secured a prize of NOK 1000. Also NOK 1000 to best placed woman, and to best placed senior player born 1953 or earlier.
Plus book prizes.
Group B:
Prizes NOK 2500, 1250 and 600 + book prizes
NOK 600 to the best player with a rating below 1500.
Group C:
Prizes NOK 2000, 1000 and 500 + book prizes
NOK 500 to the best player with a rating below 1000.
For all the groups also:
Books or other prizes to other players to make a total of 1/3 prize winners in each rating group.

FAGERNES GRAND PRIX 2013:
An open tournament from Sunday 24 to Tuesday 26 March, with all players in one group.
Time control 1 hour each for 40 moves, and then 30 minutes extra to finish the game.

Lilliputs born 2000 or later NOK 250
Juniors born 1993 – 99 NOK 300
Other players NOK 400
Prizes:
NOK 2000 + winner’s trophy, 1200 and 600
NOK 500 to best player of each rating group 1500-1749, 1250-1499, 1000-1249 and below 1000.
Books or other prizes to other players within one third of the participants of each rating group (NGP).

FAGERNES Easter BLITZ TOURNEY 2013:
Thursday 28 March
A blitz tournament open to all. Counts in the Norwegian Grand Prix curcuit 2012/13, and for FIDE Blitz rating.
Group A: Players with a rating 1500 or higher
Group B: Players with a rating below 1500
Thinking time: 5 minutes per player per game.
Time schedule:
1200 – 1930 Entries and registration
1945 Start of round 1
App. 2215 Prize giving
Prizes:
Group A: NOK 1000 – 600 – 300
Group B: NOK 700 – 500 – 300
Plus book prizes and other prizes.
Entry fees:
NOK 100 for liliputs born 2000 or later
NOK 150 for other players
FAGERNES CHILDREN GRAND PRIX:
Two open Children’s Tournaments Sunday 24 March and Wednesday 27 March
Each separate tournament has 5 rounds and 20 minutes thinking time for each player and game.
Entry fee: NOK 100 per player.
Sunday 24 March: Registration until 1030.
Wednesday 27 March: Registration until 0930.
Miniputs born 2002 or later
Lilliputs born 2000-2001
Cadets born 1997-99
And a beginners’ group
There are prizes to all these participants, of course!

Travel to Fagernes:
Fagernes is the charming capital of the Valdres region (www.valdres.no) and 3 hours by car from Oslo.
VALDRESEKSPRESSEN (express bus) from Oslo bus terminal. Departure at 0930 arrives to Fagernes at 1237, and 1305 arrives to Fagernes at 1617.

From Oslo Airport Gardermoen: We will offer a charter bus connection (please preorder!) directly from Oslo Airport Gardermoen Sunday 24 March at 1215 arriving in Fagernes at 1500. Return trip from Fagernes Sunday 31 March at 1545, arriving at Gardermoen at 1830. Tickets one way NOK 260 for adults, NOK 130 for children under 16.
